Natadera Temple

It is an ancient temple with a long history, reportedly founded in 717 AD. Natadera Temple shows different appearances from season to season. It is a beautiful place where nature and history are in harmony, and a space that soothes the soul. Enjoy the beautiful Natadera Temple, dyed in colorful autumn leaves, and the designated scenic garden and important cultural properties in the precincts of the temple. Please come and experience the beauty of Japan.

(Note) Depending on the season, you may not be able to see the autumn leaves at Natadera Temple.

Ataka Sumiyoshi Shrine

Ataka Sumiyoshi Shrine is an ancient shrine said to have been founded in 782 AD. Among the treasures are valuable oshie (raised cloth pictures) and nishikie (woodblock prints in full color) paintings depicting scenes from "Kanjincho," a well-known Kabuki play. The shrine is guided by a miko (shrine maiden). While listening to the miko's guidance, think back to the scenery of olden times.

Ataka-no-Seki barrier

The tour will take a walk around "Ataka-no-Seki barrier," which is well-known as the stage for the Noh play "Ataka" and the Kabuki play "Kanjincho. The tour will also include a visit to the Kanjincho Museum.

Japanese Restaurant "Nagaoki"

Enjoy seafood kaiseki cuisine at Nagaoki, a long-established ryotei restaurant established 130 years ago.Enjoy seasonal delicacies such as the exquisite “crab shell fried” and fresh sashimi from the Sea of Japan to satisfy your taste buds and soul. Nagaoki's Kongo no Ma (Kongo Room) is a large hall that was moved from the Matsumura family's house, a Kitamae shipowner, and is registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan.

UNESCO World Heritage Shirakawa-go
Light-up Tour

Special light-up events of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Shirakawago Gassho Village! There will only be four the Shirakawa-go light-up events in 2025.

Note: Tickets to the observation deck are not included.

Departure Dates ■ January 13 (Mon.), January 19 (Sun.), January 26 (Sun.), and February 2 (Sun.), 2025
Please note that only January 13 will be held on Monday due to a three-day weekend.

This year, the UNESCO World Heritage Site Shirakawa-go Gassho Village will hold a special light-up events only on limited days in winter! The light-up events is now available only on limited days in the winter, and you are invited to join the bus tour from Kanazawa for this special event. The bus will arrive at Shirakawa-go at 3:30 pm, so you can visit Shirakawa-go during the day before the lights come up. Dinner will be served at "Hakusuien(白水園)", where you will enjoy a set meal with miso paste made with ingredients from the mountains. Please enjoy the snow piled up on the Gassho-zukuri houses, which are illuminated to create a fantastic snow world.

Notes

About the Observation Deck: Daytime

*The Ogimachi Castle Ruins Observation Deck will be closed at 4:10 p.m., and the walking route will be open until 3:45 p.m..
*Shuttle buses to the observatory will be in normal operation (9:00 a.m.-3:40 p.m. for uphill, 9:10 a.m.-4:10 p.m. for downhill). (paid service).
*If on foot, it takes about 15 to 20 minutes to reach the observatory from the walking trail behind the Wada House, the tour facility.

(Note) If you arrive at Shirakawa-go late due to traffic congestion, you may not be able to reach the observatory.

About the Observation Deck: Light-up Hours

Light-up hours: 5:30p.m.-7:30p.m.
This tour does not include the ticket to the observatory during the Light-up hours.

Temperatures and Clothing

The temperature during the Light-up period is -10℃ to 0℃, and the road surface is icy. We recommend that you wear warm clothes, waterproof winter boots, and spikes. It is also recommended to bring a flashlight since it is dark underfoot.

*The use of drones is prohibited in Shirakawa-go. Violations will be subject to penalties.
*An "admission ticket system" will be introduced from this year. Please wear the ticket holder around your neck at all times while entering the gate and walking around the village.
*Be sure to check the dedicated Shirakawa-go Light-up website for more information about the light-up events.
